Cougars win 108-95 shoutout at the Barton Gym for season sweep of Saints

A 9-0 run to begin the second half and a season high fifteen three-pointers powered the Barton Community College men's basketball team to a 108-95 shootout victory over Seward County Community College Saturday night at the Barton Gym.   The Cougars broke open a three-point halftime lead burying a trio of long range shots going on to build a twenty-one point lead by the twelve minute mark in cruising to the series sweep of the Saints.   Barton remains tied with Dodge City in the second spot of the Jayhawk at 12-5 and 16-5 on the season while Seward County drops to 3-14 and 6-15 on the year.  The Cougars will next have a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday contest at Cowley College before hosting Allen County Community College next Saturday.

The Cougars had three players eclipse the twenty-point mark with Jahlil Rawley leading the way with a career high twenty-nine points and distributing a team high six assists.  Ezekiel Charles scored twenty-four points for the second time this season against the Saints knocking down 6-of-7 from behind the arc while Malik Rhodes was close behind with twenty-three to go along with four assists.  Keeshawn Palmer led the eight rebound edge by the Cougars grabbing ten while contributing nine points coming off the bench.

Kevin Sims led all scorers behind five three pointers and thirty-two points.  Charles Beauregard nearly recorded a double-double scoring nineteen with a team high nine rebounds and four steals.  Pierre Johnson rounded out the double-digit scorers with eleven points and distributing a team high four assists.

The teams combined for twenty-seven three-pointers in the contest scoring the second most combined points in the series behind the 207 points accumulated in the Saints' 107-100 victory in 1995 at the Greenhouse. 

Seventy-five free throws were attempted in the contest with fifty-two coming in second half action.  The Cougars sank 77.5% of their forty attempts while Seward County sank a season high by opponent twenty-nine of thirty-five attempts for 83%.
