Starting off fast out of the second half gates, the Cougars controlled the first half of the final period as well, ballooning the lead out to as much as twenty-points before thwarting a late Neosho County rally. The victory clinched Barton’s outright second place standing in the Jayhawk Conference at 19-7, improving to 23-7 on the season while dropping Neosho County to 8-18 in conference and 11-19 overall.

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team held off a second half Thunderbird rally on Hall of Fame nigh Saturday at the Barton Gym with a 74-71 victory over Cloud County Community College to sweep the season series. Leading by six at halftime, Barton doubled its lead in the next twelve minutes before an 18-8 Cloud County run made things interesting for the final 1:35. The Cougars then sank 7-of-8 from the free throw line holding off the Thunderbirds including a trey with one second remaining and a Barton turnover with the tying trey attempt unable to beat the buzzer. With three games remaining in the regular season, Barton strengthened is spot for the region’s second seed improving to 17-6 in Jayhawk play and 21-6 overall while Cloud County slips back to a fourth place tie with Coffeyville at 13-10 and 17-10 on the year. Within the remaining games, the Cougars have two at the Barton Gym beginning with Wednesday’s hosting of Pratt Community College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

A 9-0 run to begin the second half and a season high fifteen three-pointers powered the Barton Community College men’s basketball team to a 108-95 shootout victory over Seward County Community College Saturday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars broke open a three-point halftime lead burying a trio of long range shots going on to build a twenty-one point lead by the twelve minute mark in cruising to the series sweep of the Saints. Barton remains tied with Dodge City in the second spot of the Jayhawk at 12-5 and 16-5 on the season while Seward County drops to 3-14 and 6-15 on the year. The Cougars will next have a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday contest at Cowley College before hosting Allen County Community College next Saturday.

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team held off a pesky Colby Community College Wednesday night at the Barton Gym escaping with a 65-60 victory. The Cougars increased their ten point halftime edge to eighteen points midway through the final half only to see the Trojans fight back behind an 11-3 run drawing to within four with two minutes to play. Colby would cut the deficit to three with under a minute of action remaining but 7-of-8 free throw shooting down the stretch sealed the Barton win. The Cougars will next head to Garden City on Sunday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Broncbusters.

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team picked up their second consecutive win of the 2017 portion of their schedule scoring fifty-five second half points for a 103-89 victory at Pratt Community College. The Cougars erased a two-point halftime deficit with the twenty minute surge getting two individual double-double performances and placing six players in double figures to reach the century mark for the third time of the season. Barton remains in second place with the victory improving to 8-3 in the Jayhawk and 12-3 while sending Pratt to its third straight defeat having surrendered over a hundred points in dropping to the conference cellar at 2-9 and 4-10 on the year. Next up for the Cougars will be a welcomed home game as Barton hosts Coffeyville Community College in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off Wednesday.

The No. 21 ranked Barton Community College men’s basketball team took its second consecutive loss of the season falling 86-79 Wednesday night at Dodge City Community College. Battling back from an eighteen point deficit late in the contest, the Cougars nearly pulled off the comeback drawing to within four with a minute remaining but symbolic to the frustrating night, a missed defensive rebound sealed the fate as two icing free throws ensued. The loss drops the Cougars drop to 10-2 on the season sinking to 6-2 in conference play while Dodge City improves to 8-3 and 5-3 in the Jayhawk. Barton will wind up the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule this Saturday as the Cougars host No. 2 ranked Hutchinson Community College in a 7:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym.

No one would expect a team to go undefeated in the rugged Jayhawk Conference but taking a home loss is tough to swallow as the Barton Community College men’s basketball team were knocked off the top perch Saturday evening at the Barton Gym 80-71 to Independence Community College. Trailing by two at the half after shooting below 31% from the field, the Cougars warmed up in second half play but a decisive 12-0 run by the Pirates in the latter stages of the game and thirty-eight points from DaJon Streeter proved the difference in halting the Cougars’ ten game win streak to begin the season. The loss drops Barton to 6-1 in conference play and 10-1 on the season while Independence pics up the second win in Jayhawk play improving to 2-5 and 5-5 on the season. The Cougars will need to put the loss to bed quickly as two more tough conference games are next on the schedule beginning with a Wednesday trip to Dodge City Community College before hosting nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College on Saturday to conclude the pre-Christmas schedule. Game ties set for 7:30 p.m. for both contests.

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team used a balanced attack and a season high shooting performance for a 101-82 victory over Cowley College Saturday evening at the Barton Gym. The Cougars put fifty-three first half points on the board finishing with five players reaching double-digits in shooting 65% on the night to exceed the century mark for the second time this season. Improving to 9-0, the Cougars share the top spot in the Jayhawk standings at 5-0 while dropping Cowley to 2-3 and 5-4 on the year. Barton’s next action will come on Wednesday as the Cougars travel to Iola for an 8:00 p.m. tip against Allen County Community College.

Barton men end streaks with 88-81 victory at Seward County

It’s been four years since the Barton Community College men’s basketball team could enjoy the drive home after the three hour trip to Liberal but Tuesday night the Cougars broke that three-game streak defeating Seward County Community College 88-81. The Cougars answered the Saints first lead in nearly twenty-four minutes with an 8-0 mid second half run building an eleven point margin in the following five minutes before holding Seward County at arm’s reach the rest of the game. Additionally snapping a three game losing streak to the Saints, Barton remains atop the conference standings at 4-0 improving to 8-0 on the season while sending Seward County to its eight straight conference season dating back to last season’s win over the Cougars in falling to 0-4 in the Jayhawk and 3-5 on the season. Barton will take a few days off for the holiday break before refocusing for Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. contest against Cowley College.

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team exploded for fifty-three second half points Wednesday night at the Barton Gym in knocking of No. 25 Garden City Community College 92-70. Leading by two at the intermission, Barton went on a 25-6 run to break open a then six point lead in controlling the latter third of the game. The victory improves the Cougars to 2-0 in the Jayhawk and 6-0 on the young season while Garden City drops to 1-1 in being handed their first loss of the season falling to 5-1. Next up for Barton is a Saturday trip to El Dorado for a 7:30 p.m. tip against Butler Community College.

The Cougars’ three point halftime lead at the Community Building reached double digits early in the half growing to as much as eighteen in breaking a two game losing streak against the Trojans. Barton improves to 5-0 on the season while Colby drops its first of the season falling to 4-1. The Cougars will next host Garden City Community College on Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

The Barton Community College men?s basketball team closed out the Best Western and Cougar Booster Classic at the Barton Gym with a Saturday night 80-54 victory over Hesston College. Breaking open a tight game with a 10-2 run midway through the first half, the Cougars took an eleven point lead at intermission before blowing Hesston out of the gym with a 18-0 run to begin the second half. Dropping the Larks to 1-2 on the early season, Barton improves to 3-0 with next action coming Wednesday in hosting Sterling College JV in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
