Cougars knock off No. 16 Hutchinson in the Sports Arena; pivotal game looms on Wednesday

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team shook up the conference and region standings Saturday night in the Hutchinson Sports Arena with an 87-82 victory over No. 16 ranked Hutchinson Community College. The victory vaulted the Cougars into a second place tie in the conference race and set up thrilling last night of regular season play as Region VI tournament seedings yet to be determined. Improving to 8-5 in conference play and 20-9 overall, Barton can secure at least first round Region VI home playoff game with a victory Wednesday at the Barton Gym against Garden City Community College. A loss by the Cougars could potentially spiral Barton down to a sixth seed. Hutchinson meanwhile falls to 22-7 on the season and into a second place tie with the Cougars and Pratt Community College at 8-5. Tip-off time for the Barton-Garden City matchup will be approximately 7:30 p.m. or twenty-minutes following sophomore recognition night held at the conclusion of the women’s game.
