Cougars drop 6th overtime contest in season-ending loss at Cowley

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team fittingly ended its 2010-11 season with an overtime loss. For the 6th time this season, Barton fell in extra time, this time in the playoffs, falling to Cowley 65-63 in Arkansas City. The 1st round Region VI loss ended the Cougars season at 19-12. Cowley made it to the Region VI semifinals before ending its season with a 25-8 record.

Barton finally scores overtime win in regular season finale

Barton finally scores overtime win in regular season finale The Barton Community College men’s basketball team broke free from its overtime jinx Saturday night with an extra-time win at the Barton Gym. Barton defeated Pratt 95-88 in Jayhawk West action in the regular season finale for both teams. The win slotted Barton as the No 7 seed in the West in the Region VI playoffs. Barton ends the West season at 7-9 and 19-11 overall while Pratt misses the playoffs with a 4-12 conference mark and a 13-17 overall record. Barton will travel to Arkansas City Tuesday night to take on East No 2 seed Cowley in 1st round Region VI action. Tip for that contest will be at 8 pm from Scott Auditorium.

Cougars lose big halftime lead in loss at Colby

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team lost a big halftime lead Wednesday night at Colby, suffering its 6th loss in 7 games. Barton led by 22 at half but lost the contest 77-75 at the Community Building in Colby. The loss drops Barton to 6-9 in the Jayhawk West and 18-11 overall. Barton has one more game left in the regular season Saturday when Pratt visits the Barton Gym. Colby finishes its regular season with a 6-10 West record and a 15-15 overall mark. A Cougar win Saturday would send them to Cowley for 1st round Region VI play while a loss would send them to Coffeyville.

Barton handed loss at Butler

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team has not found the Power Plant in El Dorado to be very friendly the past few seasons. It wasn’t again Saturday as Butler defeated Barton 82-58 in Jayhawk West action. It was the 3rd straight year the Cougars have lost by at least 16 points at Butler. Barton is now 6-7 in the West and 18-9 overall while Butler improves to 6-6 and 16-10. The Cougars will be at home Wednesday to take on Hutchinson in West play. It is just 1 of 3 West games remaining for the Cougars as the regular season draws to an end. Hutch is 6-6 in the West and 20-6 overall. The two clubs – along with about 3 other teams including Butler – are fighting for a pair of home playoff spots up for grabs.

Barton ends skid with 70-66 win over Garden City

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team snapped free from its 3-game losing streak with a 70-66 win over Garden City Thursday night at the Barton Gym in Great Bend. Barton battled back from an 8-point 2nd half deficit for the win to even its Jayhawk West record. Barton is now 6-6 in the West in what has turned into a large group fighting for 2nd thru 7th. The Cougars are 18-8 overall. Garden City entered the contest in 2nd place in the West, falling to 6-5 in the conference and 17-8 overall. The Cougars are back on the road Saturday to take on Butler, fresh off a win over Hutchinson Thursday night as well. Butler is 5-6 in the West and 15-10 overall. The Grizzlies won the 1st match up of the year in Great Bend.

Cougars lose to West-leading Saints

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team lost to Jayhawk West leading Seward County Saturday night at the Barton Gym. The Cougars lost to the Saints 71-50 on Homecoming at Barton. It was back-to-back losses for the Cougars on their home floor as Barton fell to 5-5 in the West and 17-7 overall. Seward, ranked No 16 in the NJCAA improved to 9-1 in the West and 21-3 overall. Barton will hit the road Monday in quick turnaround, traveling to Dodge City. Dodge is coming off an 80-79 upset win at No. 8 Hutchinson Saturday. Tip for the Monday contest will be at 7:30 pm.

Barton loses West home game to Cloud in overtime

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team continued its woes on its home floor, losing another Jayhawk West overtime contest Wednesday night. Barton lost to Cloud County 70-63 in an extra session, the 2nd conference game Barton has lost in overtime on its home floor and 3rd overtime loss at home this season. The Cougars – winners of 3 straight West games on the road - have dropped 2 of their last 3 at home. Barton is now 17-6 overall and 5-4 in the West while Cloud improved to 15-7 and 5-3. Barton is back at home Saturday to take on the leader in the West. Seward County will bring a 20-3 record to the Barton Gym with an 8-1 West record and a No. 16 NJCAA ranking. It will be Homecoming night for the Cougars.

Barton makes it 3 straight West road wins; host Cloud Wednesday night

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team slipped out of Pratt Saturday night with a 79-72 Jayhawk West win over Pratt, giving Barton 3 straight on the road in the West and 4 of the past 5 overall in conference. The win at Lesh Sports Arena improved Barton to 5-3 in the conference, this after a 0-2 start with road losses at Cloud County and Seward County. The Cougars are 17-5 overall. Pratt fell to 2-6 in the West and 11-11 overall. Barton will get a chance to payback Cloud for the loss to start West play Wednesday when the Thunderbirds pay a visit to the Barton Gym for an 8 pm tip. Seward will be in town Saturday.

Cougars rally then hold off Colby for Jayhawk West win

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team escaped the Barton Gym Wednesday night with a 65-64 win. The Cougars had to rally from a 15-point 1st half deficit then hold off Colby on a pair of occasions in the final seconds to secure the Jayhawk West win. It was Barton’s 4th win in its last 5 West games as the Cougars improved to 4-3 in the conference and 16-5 overall. Colby fell to 1-7 in the West and 10-12 overall. Barton will be back on the road this weekend when the Cougars travel to Pratt to complete the 1st time through the conference. Pratt will bring a 2-5 West record to the game and an 11-10 overall record. Tip is set for 8 pm.

Barton rolls to win at No 4 Hutchinson in West play

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team scored a big road win Thursday night, traveling to Hutchinson and beating the No 4 ranked team in the nation on its home floor. The Cougars never trailed in the game on the way to a 70-63 win over Hutchinson at the Sports Arena. The win was the 2nd straight on the road for the Cougars, now 3-3 in the West and 15-5 overall. Hutch fell to 17-2 and 3-2 with its 2nd straight loss after a 17-0 start. Barton is off until Wednesday when Colby will pay a visit to the Barton Gym for an 8 pm tip off.

Cougars lose overtime contest to Butler

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team lost a tough one at home Monday night as the Cougars were beaten by Butler in overtime at the Barton Gym. Butler earned the road win with an 81-77 win in Great Bend. Barton drops to 2-3 in the Jayhawk West with its first home loss of the conference season and 14-5 overall. Butler is now 2-2 in the West and 12-6 overall. Barton will be right back at it for the 3rd games in 5 days when the Cougars travel to Hutchinson Wednesday night to tangle with the Hutchinson – unbeaten until a loss to Butler Saturday night.

Barton picks up West road win at Garden, 79-59

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team earned its first road win of the Jayahwk West season with a 79-59 win over Garden City at the Perryman Athletic Complex in Garden City. The Cougars used a big run in the first half to grab the lead then pulled out to a double digit lead to start the 2nd half of play and coasted to the win. The win evens Barton at 2-2 in the West after starting the year with 3 of 4 games on the road. Barton is now 14-4 overall. Garden fell to 1-2 in the West and 12-5 overall. The Cougars will get a home test Monday when Butler comes to the Barton Gym fresh off a win over No 1 ranked Hutchinson Saturday in El Dorado. Butler is 1-2 in the West and 11-6 overall.

Barton beats Dodge City in Jayhawk West play

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team picked up a much-needed win Wednesday night as the Cougars defeated Dodge City at the Barton Gym in the Cougars’ home-opener in Jayhawk West play. Barton won the contest 77-61 to improve to 1-2 in the West after opening with a pair of road losses. Barton is 13-4 overall. Dodge City fell to 1-2 in the West and now stands at 12-5 overall on the season. The Cougars will be back on the road Saturday when Barton travels to Garden City to take on the Broncbusters in 7:30 pm tip at the Perryman Athletic Complex.

Barton comes up short in comeback effort at Cloud to start West play

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team spent most of the night playing catch-up basketball at Concordia Wednesday night coming up just short in its comeback bid. Barton lost the Jayhawk West opener at Arley Bryant Gym, falling to Cloud County 85-78. Barton is now 12-3 overall on the season and 0-1 in the West. Cloud improved to 11-4 and 1-0. Barton will now travel to Liberal to take on No 25 Seward County. Seward also lost its West opener at No 1 Hutchinson Wednesday by an 80-75 final.

Cougars wrap up sweep of midweek games; stand at 10-2

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team closed out a pair of midweek wins Wednesday night at the Barton Gym in Great Bend with a 99-69 win over Hesston College. Monday night Barton beat New Creations Basketball Academy by a 72-67 margin. The wins improved the Cougars to 10-2 on the season with one more home contest left before the semester break.

Barton closes out 1st semester with 11-2 record

The Barton Community College men’s basketball team wrapped up the 1st semester portion of its schedule with a 96-54 win over the Southwestern College JV Monday night at the Barton Gym. The win gives Barton an 11-2 record heading into the Christmas Break. Barton will return to action January 2nd in Salina against Brown Mackie in a 2 pm Sunday contest. Barton will open Jayhawk West play January 5 at Concordia against Cloud County.
