Barton falls to Colby in conference road game
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team dropped a heart-breaking game on Wednesday, traveling to Colby to face the Trojans. The Cougars fought hard to keep the game close, even having a chance to go ahead or tie on the last possession of the contest. A missed three pointer at the buzzer by Barton gave Colby the 88-86 home victory over the Cougars. Barton's record falls to 2-1 in Jayhawk West competition, 14-3 overall. Colby's record moves to 8-8 overall, and just 1-2 in conference play.

Highlights
Barton fell behind early on by double digits on the road to Colby, after a lackluster start to the game. By the halfway mark of the first period, the Trojans had opened up a 14 point lead, by the score of 27-13. The Cougars made a run at the lead in the first half, lead by Chris Berry's 12 first half points. Barton cut the 12 point lead in half, trailing 47-41 at the intermission. The Colby lead would remain around the 5 point mark for most of the second half, until the Cougars made the game interesting halfway through the second half. After two free throws from Shaun James, Barton had their first lead of the night by the score of 63-62. Barton's largest lead of the night, only 2, came moments later on a slam dunk by Ivan Evans. On the dunk though, Evans was called for a technical foul, and Colby took advantage to tie the game up.

After a Thiago Cordero lay-up, Barton had the lead back. Colby gathered themselves and regained the lead for good with 4 minutes left to play, opening a 7 point lead at the 2:45 mark. Barton had a chance to take the lead, trailing by one point with 12 seconds left, but a Joel Stucky turnover forced the Cougars to foul. Colby made one free throw and Barton was down 2 with 5 seconds left. AJ Martin's three point attempt at the buzzer hit the back iron, sealing the Colby victory 88-86.

Berry led the Cougars with 29 points and 7 rebounds. Joining Berry in double figures were Evans with 17 and Cordero with 10. Cordero also came up big for Barton with 7 boards and 7 blocked shots. Barton shot 47 percent from the field, but came up short once again at the free throws, shooting just 14-of-24 from the line. The Cougars did manage to make 6 three point baskets, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arch. Colby trumped the Cougars with 71 percent free throw shooting. Despite Barton out rebounding the Trojans 45 to 40, Colby came away with the 2 point victory
