Channel to play hoops at Barton County next season
Dylan Channel put up some impressive numbers this season at Rossville High School. The 6-6 forward will now take his talents to the next level as a member of the Barton County Community College men’s basketball team. Channel signed to play for the Cougars next season as 1 of 5 in-state singings so far by the Cougars. Channel’s final two choices for a college next season came down to Barton County and Hutchinson.

Tegtmeier signs to play for Barton County next season
After helping the Emporia High School basketball team to a 13-game improvement in the win column last season, Caleb Tegtmeier will continue his basketball career at Barton County Community College. The senior at Emporia High recently signed a letter-of-intent to play for Barton County, choosing the Cougars. Last season Tegtmeier, 1 of 5 in-state signees released so far by Barton County men’s coach Soupy Campbell, helped Emporia High to a 22-3 record, 13 wins more than the previous season.

Landrith continues Junction City connection to Barton County
Junction City has been very good to the Barton County Community College men’s basketball the past few years. That tradition will continue next season when Aaron Landrith add his name to the list of Junction City Blue Jays to play hoops for the Cougars. Landrith signed a letter-of-intent recently with Barton County. He is 1 of 5 in-state signees for the Cougars and Coach Soupy Campbell for next season.

Clark to play hoops at Barton County next season
Kendall Clark will bring his leaping ability and basketball talents to Barton County Community College next season. The senior at Blue Valley Northwest recently signed a letter-of-intent with the Cougars. He is 1 of 5 in-state signees that have been released by Barton County Coach Soupy Campbell.

Batista named to NJCAA All-American 2nd team
Barton County Community College men’s basketball sophomore JP Batista was selected as a 2nd team All-American by the NJCAA, which released its All-American teams today. He was 1 of 3 Jayhawk West players to earn recognition. This marks the 6th consecutive season the Cougars have had at least one player named 1st or 2nd team All-American by the NJCAA. Batista was a key reason the Cougars finished the season in the Region VI Championship game before ending its year with a 25-9 mark one game short of the school’s 4th NJCAA Tournament appearance.

Cougars' season comes to end in Region VI Championship game
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team saw its season come to a heart-stopping conclusion with a 65-62 loss to Coffeyville in the finals of the Region VI Championship contest at the Bicentennial Center in Salina Tuesday night. The loss kept the Cougars from their 4th-ever appearance in the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament. Barton County ended its season with a 25-9 record while Coffeyville (28-6) moves on the NJCAA Tournament for the 3rd consecutive year.

Barton earns trip to Region VI Finals with 69-60 win over Hutch
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team moved to within one game of making its 4th-ever trip to the NJCAA National Tournament with a semifinal win over rival Hutchinson Monday night at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. The Cougars won the Region VI semifinal battle by a 69-60 score, sending the No. 10 team in the nation home for the season and keeping alive the Cougars hopes of returning to the NJCAA Tournament for the 3rd time in 6 seasons. Barton (25-8) will take on the Jayhawk East Champ Coffeyville tonight at 8 pm for the Region VI title. Coffeyville (27-6) has won the last 2 Region VI titles. Hutch, the Jayhawk West Champ, finished its season at 29-4.

Cougars headed to semifinal showdown with Hutch; Batista enters record book
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team advanced to the Region VI semifinals for the first time in 3 years with a 68-60 win over Cowley County Sunday night at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. The win moved the Cougars into the semifinals where they will meet Jayhawk West champion Hutchinson at 7 pm tonight. Barton, which finished 3rd in the West, will bring a 24-8 record into the contest while Hutch is 29-3. Cowley ended its season at 23-9. During the win over Cowley, Barton sophomore center JP Batista hit 17-of-17 free throws to set a school record for most free throws made in a game without a miss.

Barton moves into quarterfinals with win over KCK to open Region VI play
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team earned a trip to Salina and the quarterfinals of the Region VI Men’s Basketball Tournament with a 90-74 win over Kansas City Kansas Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym. The win was the 3rd time in 4 years the Cougars have defeated the Blue Devils in the opening round of the Region VI Tournament in Great Bend. Barton is now 23-8 and will face Cowley County (23-8) in the quarterfinals Sunday at 5 pm at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. KCK ends its season at 15-16.

Cougars wrap up home playoff tilt with 3 OT win over Dodge
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team hooked up in a battle with Dodge City Saturday night that appeared as if it might not ever end. The two teams needed 3 overtimes at the Barton County Gym to determine a winner in a game that had a lot riding on the outcome. The Cougars secured the No. 3 seed in the West with a 91-85 triple OT thriller over the Conquistadors. Barton finished the season tied with Dodge and Colby at 10-6 in the West but captured the 3 seed in the West for the upcoming Region VI Tournament thanks to holding the tiebreaker with the other two teams. A loss would have sent Barton on the road for a 1st round contest. The Cougars completed their regular season with a 22-8 mark. Dodge City ended at 18-11. The Cougars will host KCK, the 6th seed in the East, Wednesday night at 7 pm in the Barton County Gym.

Barton rallies for improbable win over Cloud
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team was starring right in the face of a 5-game losing streak and a 1st round road game when the ridiculous happened Wednesday night. The Cougars, trailing by 8 points with less than 50 seconds to play, rallied to tie the contest against Cloud County before pulling out the win in overtime. The Cougars eventually won the contest, 90-87 in overtime, at the Arley Bryant Gymnasium in Concordia. The win moves Barton into a tie for the 4th spot in the Jayhawk West at 9-6 in conference action. Barton is now 21-8 overall. Cloud falls to 16-14 and 5-11 to end their regular season. A win Saturday at home against Dodge City would secure a 1st round home game for the Cougars and could move them as high as No. 2 in the West seedings.

Barton drops 4th straight with loss at Butler
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team saw its losing streak reach 4 games Saturday night as the Cougars lost to Butler County by a 77-69 count at the Power Plant in El Dorado. The loss drops the Cougars to 8-6 in the Jayhawk West and into a tie for 5th place with Butler County, who has swept the Cougars this season. Barton is now 20-8 overall. Butler improves to 8-6 as well in the West and 18-10 overall.

DiBoty dismissed from Barton men’s basketball team
Michel DiBoty has been dismissed from the Barton County Community College men’s basketball for the remainder of the season. DiBoty, a sophomore from Rhode Island, was dismissed from the team following the Barton County-Hutchinson game Wednesday at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson. He was dismissed for conduct unbecoming a team member.

Barton drops another close contest; Colby earns 84-81 win
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team dropped back-to-back games for the 3rd time this season, falling at home to Colby by an 84-81 score in a battle of Top 20 teams. The No. 13 Trojans made the plays down the stretch to earn the win over the No. 20 Cougars. The loss drops Barton to 8-4 in the Jayhawk West and 20-6 overall. Colby is now 9-4 in the West as well and 22-4 overall. Hutchinson is now alone atop the conference with a 9-3 record. The Cougars will play at Hutch Wednesday.

Barton moves into Top 20 for 1st time this season
Despite a double overtime loss at Garden City Saturday, the Barton County Community College men’s basketball team made its first appearance of the season in the NJCAA Top 20 rankings, moving in at No. 20. The Cougars, who lead the West with Garden City at 8-3 with Hutchinson 1/2 game back at 7-3, are 1 of 3 teams that are currently ranked from the West. Hutchinson has the highest ranking at No. 11 with Colby coming in at No. 13.

Cougars lose double OT thriller at Garden; remain on top of West
The Barton County Community College men’s basketball team and Garden City locked up in an ol’ fashion Jayhawk West barnburner Saturday night in a game that feature two of the top 3 teams in the standings. When the night was done Barton County and Garden City sat tied atop the Jayhawk West after the Garden knocked off the Cougars, 81-76 in double overtime. The result – along with a Hutchinson loss at Pratt – left Barton and Garden tied on top of the West with 8-3 marks. Hutch is a 1/2 game back at 7-3. The Cougars and Broncbusters split their two meetings this year.
