Nouha Diakite became the first player for this year's Barton County Community College basketball team to commit to a 4-year school, giving Rick Pittino and the Louisville Cardinals his commitment.

Posey to play for Louisiana Monroe

After two solid years at Barton County Community College, Rapheal Posey will be continuing his basketball career at the University of Louisiana Monroe. Posey signed a national letter-of-intent recently to play for the Division I school which is a member of the Southland Conference.

Fields to play for New Hampshire

Elisha Field is the third Cougar to sign to play for an NCAA Division I team next season, inking a letter-of-intent to play for New Hampshire University next season. New Hampshire is a member of the American East Conference.

Carter headed to Hawaii

Jason Carter became the latest in a growing list of Barton County Community College basketball players to move on to an NCAA Division I school to continue playing basketball. Carter made that official when he signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball for the University of Hawaii. Carter picked Hawaii over South Carolina, Wichita State, and San Jose State.

Justin Rose became the first high school player to sign with the Barton County Community College men's basketball team, signing a letter-of-intent to play for the Cougars late last week.

Cougars' season ends on last second shot

This time is was Barton County on the receiving end of a heartbreaking shot at the Region VI quarterfinals. The Cougars lost to Coffeyville at the buzzer when Fred Marshall hit a 12-footer in the lane for an 89-87 win at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. The loss, which came to down to a matter of the possession arrow, ends Barton's season at 22-10. Coffeyville (31-1) moves into semifinal action today Tuesday against Dodge City at 6 p.m.

Barton wins Region VI opener; Coffeyville next up

The first round game of the Region VI tournament has not produced a bunch of big wins for the Barton County men's basketball team the past few years. But the Cougars have shown that it doesn’t matter how large the margin of victory is, just that it is a victory. So the slim 78-71 win over Neosho County Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym will do just fine. Last season on the way to the Region VI title, the Cougars won by just six points in first round. Barton is now 22-9 with the win while Neosho ends its season at 17-14.

Barton ends regular season with win; hosts Neosho County Wednesday

It is always nice to head into post season play with a win. Mission accomplished for the Barton County men's basketball team. Barton defeated Pratt Saturday night, winning 88-74, in the final regular season game for both teams. The Cougars finish 10-6 in the Jayhawk West, tied for third. They will take a 21-9 mark into the home contest against Neosho County in the first round of the Region VI tournament. Pratt finishes 15-15 and 7-9.

Barton suffers through tough second half in loss at Colby

Things were going along nicely for the Barton County Cougars men's basketball team in the first 10-15 minutes at Colby Tuesday. But as easily as the Cougars built a 21-point lead in the first half, they struggled to score in the second half, falling to Colby, 80-69. The loss dropped Barton to 9-6 in the Jayhawk West and 20-9 overall. Colby finishes its regular season at 6-10 and 17-13.

Coguars continue to roll; rally to beat Hutch

Those with a weak heart probably shouldn't attend too many Barton County Community College men's basketball games. Coming off the heels of an improbable come-from-behind overtime win at Butler County Saturday night, the Cougars were back at it again Wednesday. This time Barton rallied from a 15-point deficit with nine minutes to play to knock off Hutchinson, 88-86 at the Barton County Gym. The win puts Barton alone in third place in the West at 9-5. It also gave Barton its 6th straight 20-win season and the 14th in the last 15 years as the Cougars improved to 20-8. Hutchinson falls to 7-6 in the West and 19-8 overall.

Cougars win overtime thriller at Butler County

The Barton County men's basketball team continues to make its late-season push in the Jayhawk West Conference, winning a thrilling 85-82 overtime contest on the road against Butler County Saturday night. The win moved the Cougars to 19-8 overall this season and 8-5 in the Jayhawk West.

Barton County runs past Broncbusters

The Barton County men's basketball team is proving that eight is enough. The Cougars earned their second straight win with only eight players dressed, knocking off Garden City, 80-62, Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym. Barton moves to 7-5 in the Jayhawk West and 18-8 overall. The Broncbusters fell to 6-5 and 19-7.

Cougars drop contest at Dodge City

The Barton County men's basketball team dropped its second straight Jayhawk West contest, falling in Dodge City Saturday night, 84-77. The loss dropped the Cougars to 5-5 in the West and 16-8 overall. Dodge City, which is tied for the West lead, is now 8-3 in the conference and 16-8 overall.

Barton earns third road win in West play

The Barton County men's basketball team won for the third time in five outings on the road in Jayhawk West play this season, snagging a 63-47 win at Pratt Saturday night. Barton is now 16-5 overall and 4-3 in the Jayhawk West. Pratt falls to 10-11 and 2-5.

Blue Dragons tame Cougars

The Barton County men's basketball team dropped a 77-73 decision to Hutchinson Wednesday at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson. Barton fell to 14-6 overall and 3-3 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson is now 15-4, 3-2.
