The upstart esports program of Barton Community College experienced the typical highs and lows of competition in the completion of its season's second week.

Highlights of the week included a sweep in Rocket League, a head-to-head dual with the top two Madden players, and Saturday's thrilling final round surge of the Fall Guys Collegiate Knockout.

Ranked 30th in the country, the Cougars' Rocket League team swept all four matches on Tuesday against 31st ranked Kishwaukee College. Barton took game one with resounding 11-0 victory, followed it with a 2-0 win, before finishing off the sweep by 6-1 and 8-1 scores.

The highly anticipated matchup of the week came in Madden 21 between the top two ranked players, with Barton's Davon Morris taking on the 2nd ranked player hailing from Garden City Community College. Morris capped a game for the ages in the first matchup, scoring a touchdown with just six seconds remaining to pull out a 30-28 victory. Game two was not nearly as competitive as Morris jumped all over the Broncbuster 30-2 in the first two quarters before a disconnect ended the game for a doubleheader sweep solidifying his top spot of the nation's best.

The other Madden matchups did not quite fare as well for the Cougars as 24th ranked Corey Hale was the lone three remaining players to pick up a victory, splitting his two-game series with 25th ranked USC Sumter by bouncing back from a 28-6 defeat to win 9-0. Fourth ranked Anthony Twiggs was upset by Garden City's 14th ranked player 28-3 and 35-14 while 20th ranked Brayden Clare took a pair of losses to Hinds Community College's 22nd ranked player 34-13 and 38-7.

Elijah Payne had a big day in Fortnite, finishing 40th in game one but bouncing back to take 4th place in game two in earning ten points and qualifying for the end-of-the-year invitational. Trent Keffer placed 21st and 14th respectively to conclude the day with zero points.

Barton picked up a couple of forfeit wins in Super Smash Brothers, 53rd ranked Landon Robl getting the nod via a no-show of his Garden City opponent while 183rd ranked Bryce Boltman's Finger Lakes Community College opponent couldn't compete due to technical difficulties.

Splitting their first dual of the season, Barton's 8th ranked Rainbow 6 Siege team fell in its pair of games against 12th ranked Peninsula College by 7-3 and 7-4 scores.

As previously reported, the week's competition schedule concluded by the team's final round surge Saturday in advancing to the cash prize round of the Fall Guys Collegiate Knockout. Into the final four of the event, the Cougars will take on four-year schools California State University Northridge, the University of Mississippi, and DePaul University for a $5,000 total cash pool beginning at noon on Saturday, October 24.

Prior to the big day, Barton resumes its normal schedule of competition. A complete schedule may be found at BartonSports.com.
