Cougars break from conference schedule, rout Kansas Wesleyan JV

Taking a break from the grind of the Jayhawk Conference schedule, the Barton Community College baseball team had an enjoyable evening at the ballpark in a 17-4 win over the Kansas Wesleyan Junior Varsity tonight at Lawson-Biggs Field.  The Cougars, 28-21 on the season and 11-17 in the Jayhawk Conference, scored in every inning in cruising to the run-rule victory.   Great Bend native Nick Ney got the start and picked up his first victory for Barton allowing 5 hits and two runs in three innings of work as the Cougar pitching staff combined to surrender only seven hits and two walks.  Offensively Barton pounded out eleven hits as twelve of the thirteen hitters reached base.  The Cougars will travel to Hesston College Wednesday for another non-conference game before returning home this weekend for a regular season concluding series with Garden City Community College.  First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is 1:00 p.m. with "Pack the Park" tailgate festivities beginning at noon.
