Cougars earn sweep of Dodge City
The Barton County Community College baseball team completed its first sweep of the young Jayhawk West season, taking a twinbill at Dodge City Sunday. The Cougars captured the games 19-9 and 11-4.



The sweeps improves Barton County to 12-10 overall and 3-3 in Jayhawk West play. Dodge is now 3-19 and 1-9.

Highlights
The 19 runs in the opener were the highest offensive output of the season for the Cougars. A 2-run top of the 1st gave the Cougars a lead they would not relinquish. Barton blew the game wide open in the 2nd, scoring 9 times. Jeff Christy got things started with a 3-run triple, scoring Patrick Wallis, Steve Elson, and Glenn Jackson. Josh Schaub ended the scoring with a 2-run double that scored Elson and Wallis once again.

Christy finished the game with 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Elson scored 4 times in the game. Ryan Wagner picked up the win for Barton, evening his record at 1-1 this season.

In the second game, the Cougars rode a strong pitching effort from Chris Reddout to the win. Reddout went the distance, holding Dodge City to just 2 runs before giving up 2 more in the final inning of work the game already in hand.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the 2nd, Barton evened the game when Travis Oosthoek doubled in Michael Roberts. Oosthoek and Wallis eventually scored on a ground out and sacrifice fly to give Barton a 3-1 lead. The Cougars pushed it to 9-1 in the 4th, highlighted by a 3-run homer by Roberts.
