Bio

Ken Henderson is in his 34th year as Barton's head athletic trainer, assisting student-athletes and the Barton athletic department with the same passion as his first day on the job.

Henderson came to Barton in January of 1981, earned his NATA certification that April, and completed his master's degree in physical education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa soon afterward. Prior to becoming a Cougar, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for one year at Drake.

In 1979, Henderson graduated with a physical education degree from the University of Kansas where he was also a member of the Jayhawk athletic training staff.

Leading and participating in many events, committees, and functions across the state and nation, Henderson's list of involvement includes serving as a volunteer for the U.S. Olympic Committee in the summer of 1999.

During Henderson's time at Barton, the number of student-athletes his office serves has grown from around 100 to approximately 300. Accordingly, the student athletic training staff has grown from 4 students to 20-25 annually.

Henderson, a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and a Kansas licensed athletic trainer, serves as the athletic trainers’ representative in the Jayhawk Conference. He was also involved in the formation of the Kansas Athletic Trainers Society.

Ken and his wife Diann, who is the Director of the Great Bend Recreation Commission, have two grown children, a son John and a daughter Kelli, who also attended Barton.
